The first period also included a roughing minor to Shanghai’s Riley Sutter and a tripping minor to Kuznetsov. Fucale was sharp early and helped Dinamo Minsk carry a one-goal lead into the second period. Shanghai had won both previous meetings between the teams this season, but the Dragons could not solve Fucale early. Dinamo Minsk had dropped its previous game and was looking to avoid another loss.
Lipsky scored again 27:14 into the game, with Brook and Limoges assisting in the second period. That pushed the Dinamo Minsk advantage to 2-0. The middle period became penalty-filled. Dinamo Minsk’s Rhett Gardner was called for tripping, Shanghai’s Turner Ottenbreit for interference, Dinamo Minsk’s Bogdan Belkin for tripping and Dinamo Minsk’s Vladimir Alistrov for high sticking. Fucale continued to hold the lead, and Dinamo Minsk entered the third period ahead by two goals.
Shanghai rallied in the third. Dmitrij Jaskin scored 31 seconds into the period, with Brennan Menell and Calen Addison assisting, to cut the deficit to 2-1. Jaskin, a 6-foot-1, 196-pound forward, finished with a goal, three shots on goal, two penalty minutes and two hits. The Dragons pressed for an equalizer, but Tierney answered at 46:24 of the game, scoring from Belkin to restore Dinamo Minsk’s two-goal cushion. That goal stood as the winner. Tierney finished with a goal and two shots on goal.
The third period also brought more penalties. Shanghai’s Givani Smith received a hooking minor and Belkin was called for embellishment on the same sequence. Jaskin later went off for slashing, and Alistrov was assessed a too-many-players-on-the-ice minor. Shanghai pulled its goaltender for an extra attacker and finally scored again when David Chen found the net at 59:30, with Sutter and Nate Sucese assisting. Chen, a 6-foot, 190-pound forward, finished with a goal and two shots on goal. Shanghai could not score again.
Limoges had one assist and three shots on goal for Dinamo Minsk. Ty Smith recorded three shots on goal from defense. Sotishvili added an assist and a hit, Brook had an assist and a shot on goal, and Kuznetsov contributed an assist, a shot on goal and two penalty minutes. Sotishvili, a 5-foot-11, 170-pound forward, and Kuznetsov, a 6-foot-2, 192-pound forward, were part of a balanced supporting effort. For Shanghai, Jaskin and Chen scored, while Sutter and Sucese recorded assists. The Dragons fell to 8-4, and Dinamo Minsk moved to 6-9.
The result continued a tight recent series between the teams. Shanghai had won the first two meetings this season, but Dinamo Minsk answered with a road win. Fucale’s 19 saves and Lipsky’s two-goal performance helped Dinamo Minsk improve its record and hand Shanghai a loss. Dinamo Minsk also killed off several penalty situations and held on after Chen’s late goal made the final minutes tense. The Dragons pushed for a final equalizer, but Fucale and the Dinamo Minsk defense held.
Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of Shanghai 4, Dinamo Minsk 1. Interstat’s ELO system had projected Dinamo Minsk with a 62.4 percent probability to win.
