NIZHNY NOVGOROD (Interstat) — Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod will host Severstal Cherepovets on Thursday in a Kontinental Hockey League game at Trade Union Sport Palace. Torpedo enters with a 9-3 record, while Severstal is 6-6.

Torpedo has won three of its past four games. Those results include a 2-1 shootout win at Dinamo Minsk, a 6-0 win at HC Sochi and a 3-1 win at Dynamo Moscow. Torpedo also fell 3-0 at home to Salavat Yulaev Ufa. Forward Vladimir Tkachyov is a player to watch for Torpedo. In the win at Dinamo Minsk, Tkachyov scored one goal, recorded three shots on goal and had one hit. He had two assists and four shots on goal in the win at HC Sochi. He also produced three assists and one shot on goal in a home win over Avangard Omsk. Tkachyov had a goal, two assists and 10 penalty minutes at Lada Togliatti, and he scored in a home win over Ak Bars Kazan. He added four shots on goal and one hit against Salavat Yulaev Ufa. Torpedo also owns wins over HC Sochi, Avangard Omsk, Ak Bars Kazan and Lada Togliatti, and it has losses to CSKA Moscow and at CSKA Moscow.

Severstal’s most recent outing was a 5-2 win at SKA Saint Petersburg. Denis Yan led the attack with one goal, one assist, eight shots on goal and one hit. Alexander Samoilov made 15 saves on 17 shots, and Ioannis Kaldis scored one goal. Yan has recorded points in several recent games for Severstal. He posted two goals and one assist in a home win over Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg. He also scored in wins over HC Sochi and at Amur Khabarovsk, and he had an assist against Shanghai Dragons. Severstal’s recent results include a 2-1 overtime win over Shanghai Dragons, a 4-3 shootout loss to Admiral Vladivostok and a 3-1 home win over HC Sochi. Severstal also earned a 5-2 home win over Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg, a 4-1 win at Amur Khabarovsk, a 2-0 loss to Dynamo Moscow, an 8-0 loss at Spartak Moscow and a 2-1 overtime loss at Lokomotiv Yaroslavl.

Torpedo’s upcoming slate includes a home game against Metallurg Magnitogorsk and a road game at Severstal Cherepovets. Severstal will play at Ak Bars Kazan before returning home for games against SKA Saint Petersburg and Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. The teams are set to meet again in Cherepovets later in the schedule.
