Barys Astana at Metallurg Magnitogorsk
MAGNITOGORSK (Interstat) — Metallurg Magnitogorsk will host Barys Astana in a Kontinental Hockey League game Friday, Sept. 18, 2026, at Arena Metallurg.
Metallurg Magnitogorsk enters with a 3-2-0 record after a 3-2 home loss to Spartak Moscow on Wednesday, Sept. 16. Vladimir E. Tkachyov scored one goal and added one assist with four shots on goal in that defeat. Yegor Yakovlev also scored, and Nikita Mikhailis contributed two assists. Tkachyov has been a steady offensive presence for Metallurg this season. He recorded an assist against Amur Khabarovsk on Sept. 8 and had two penalty minutes and one hit against Amur on Sept. 6. Metallurg also has a 3-2 overtime loss at Avangard Omsk on Sept. 13, a 3-2 shootout win at Ak Bars Kazan on Sept. 11, a 2-1 overtime home win against Amur on Sept. 8, and a 4-2 home win against Amur on Sept. 6.
Barys Astana arrives with a 3-1-0 record after a 6-0 road win at Lada Togliatti on Wednesday, Sept. 16. Justin Bailey scored twice and recorded seven shots on goal with two hits. Tyce Thompson scored once with seven shots, and Jake Massie added a goal with five shots. Bailey has been productive throughout the early schedule. He had one assist and eight shots against Amur Khabarovsk on Sept. 12, one goal and two assists against Salavat Yulaev Ufa on Sept. 9, and two goals and one assist against Sibir Novosibirsk on Sept. 7. Barys opened with a 7-1 home win over Sibir, then beat Salavat Yulaev 8-6 at home before falling 3-1 to Amur.
The matchup features two clubs trying to build early-season momentum. Metallurg will look to use home ice and its forward depth to recover from the Spartak loss. Barys will rely on Bailey and an offense that has produced at a high rate in three of its first four games. Barys’ only loss came against Amur, while Metallurg has alternated wins and losses over its past four contests. Metallurg’s overtime and shootout results show a team comfortable in tight games, though the home loss to Spartak ended a two-game winning streak.
After Friday, Barys will travel to Lokomotiv Yaroslavl on Sunday, Sept. 20, and Dynamo Moscow on Tuesday, Sept. 22, before returning home to face Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk on Sept. 25. Metallurg will host Neftekhimik on Sept. 20, then visit Salavat Yulaev Ufa on Sept. 23 and host Ak Bars Kazan on Sept. 26. The early schedule gives both clubs little time to reset, making Friday’s contest important in the standings.
Interstat’s game simulator projects Metallurg Magnitogorsk to beat Barys 3-1.
