Poturalski’s overtime goal lifts Avangard past Avtomobilist
OMSK (Interstat) — Andrew Poturalski scored his second goal of the game 34 seconds into overtime, lifting Avangard Omsk to a 3-2 victory over Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2026, in a Kontinental Hockey League game at Omsk Arena. Poturalski took assists from Mikhail Gulyayev and Joshua Leivo on the winning play, capping an Avangard comeback after the hosts trailed by two goals. Nikita Serebryakov made 16 saves in the win for Avangard, which improved to 3-1-0. Avtomobilist fell to 2-3-0. The game drew an announced attendance of 12,011.
The visitors controlled much of the early action and built a two-goal cushion during the second period. Maxim Denezhkin opened the scoring at 27:24, with assists from Anatoly Golyshev and Alexander Sharov. Just over five minutes later, Alexander Barabanov doubled the lead at 32:31, again with help from Sharov and Adam Ruzicka. Avtomobilist’s pressure produced chances, but Avangard stayed within reach as Serebryakov settled in. The period also included an interference penalty to Avangard’s Marsel Ibragimov at 31:14, though Avtomobilist could not convert on the ensuing power play. Avtomobilist’s forecheck created traffic in front, and the visitors made their chances count before Avangard found traction.
Avangard began its rally early in the third period. Poturalski scored at 41:24, with Yegor Afanasyev picking up the assist, to cut the deficit to one. The goal shifted momentum toward the home side, and Avangard tied the game at 45:00 when Dmitry Rashevsky scored. Nail Yakupov and Gleb Burlaka assisted on the equalizer. Avtomobilist had chances to regain the lead, but penalties disrupted its rhythm. Alexander Kadeikin was called for tripping at 43:06, and Nikita Tryamkin was sent off for interference at 53:20. Avangard’s Leivo received a slashing penalty at 49:41, but neither side scored on those late power plays. The teams traded penalties through the final frame, but neither side could break the tie before overtime.
The overtime winner came quickly. Gulyayev moved the puck to Leivo, who found Poturalski for the decisive strike at 60:34. Poturalski finished with two goals on four shots, while Serebryakov earned the win with 16 saves on 18 shots. Gulyayev added an assist and four shots from the blue line. Leivo recorded an assist, four shots and two penalty minutes. Yakupov contributed an assist, five shots and three hits, and Burlaka had an assist, two shots and three hits. Rashevsky scored once on one shot and added two hits.
For Avtomobilist, Sharov was the primary setup man with two assists and one shot. Denezhkin scored once on two shots, and Barabanov scored once on three shots. Golyshev and Ruzicka each collected an assist on the visitors’ goals. Avtomobilist also had a first-period slashing penalty to Danil Gushchin at 17:07, but Avangard could not capitalize. The loss left Avtomobilist still searching for consistency on the road early in the season, while Avangard continued a strong start on home ice.
Avangard’s next game is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 18, 2026, at Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. Avtomobilist will travel to face Dinamo Minsk on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2026. The teams are set to meet again on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, in Yekaterinburg, and again on Friday, Oct. 16, 2026, in Omsk. Avangard entered the night after an overtime win against Metallurg Magnitogorsk on Sept. 13, while Avtomobilist had won at Sibir Novosibirsk on Sept. 13. The victory gave Avangard its third win in four games and handed Avtomobilist its third loss in five contests.
Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of Avangard 3, Avtomobilist 2, and Interstat’s ELO system gave Avangard a 65.8 percent probability to win. The projection gave Avangard a slight edge based on its home form and early-season results. The actual result matched the projected winner, though Avangard needed overtime after falling behind by two goals. Poturalski’s late finish made the difference and secured the extra point.
