Metallurg Magnitogorsk at Ak Bars Kazan
KAZAN, Russia (Interstat) — The Kontinental Hockey League playoff series between Metallurg Magnitogorsk and Ak Bars Kazan shifts to TatNeft Arena on Wednesday for Game 3, with the best-of-seven tied 1-1.
Metallurg Magnitogorsk (57-22 in all competitions) seized home-ice advantage Monday with a 4-2 victory in Game 2. Roman Kantserov led the way with a goal and two assists on six shots, extending his productive postseason run. The forward has recorded at least one point in five of his last seven games, including three goals and four assists across that span.
Ak Bars Kazan (51-26) opened the series with a 5-2 win Saturday at Metallurg before dropping Game 2. Alexander Chmelevski responded in the loss with a goal and an assist on two shots, continuing a stretch that has seen him register three goals in his last two outings. He leads the team with five postseason goals.
Wednesday’s contest carries added weight for Ak Bars, which now faces consecutive home games after splitting in Magnitogorsk. The teams meet again Friday at TatNeft Arena for Game 4.
The clubs split six regular-season meetings, with each winning three times. Two of those games required extra time. In Game 1 of this series, Ak Bars’ Artyom Galimov scored once on five shots, while Stepan Terekhov logged an assist.
Metallurg enters on a 5-2 run over its last seven playoff games, including sweeps of Sibir Novosibirsk in the first round and Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod in the second. Ak Bars swept Dinamo Minsk in the second round and dispatched Traktor Chelyabinsk in four games in the first.
Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. local time.
