Shanghai Dragons Dominate Sochi in KHL Road Victory

SOCHI, Russia (Interstat) — The Shanghai Dragons scored three times in the second period to break open a close game and defeated HC Sochi 6-2 in a Kontinental Hockey League matchup Monday at Bolshoy Ice Dome.

Troy Josephs led the offensive surge with two goals and an assist for Shanghai. Kevin LaBanc, Nick Merkley, Will Reilly and Gage Quinney also scored, while Borna Rendulic contributed three assists. Goaltender Andrei Tikhomirov made 26 saves for the win.

Sergei Popov and Dmitry Kagarlitsky scored for the home team. The victory improved Shanghai’s record to 19-29, while Sochi fell to 14-32. The teams will meet again in Shanghai on Friday. The Dragons’ six-goal output defied a pregame projection that favored a low-scoring Sochi win.
