SKA Saint Petersburg at CSKA Moscow

MOSCOW (Interstat) — Two struggling KHL rivals will meet Monday when CSKA Moscow hosts SKA Saint Petersburg at the CSKA Ice Palace.

The visiting SKA (8-11) enters the contest looking to build on a 4-3 home victory over Metallurg Magnitogorsk on Nov. 16. That win snapped a two-game skid for a team that has been inconsistent, following an 8-1 rout of HC Sochi with a 3-2 overtime loss to Red Star Kunlun in their most recent outings.

The home side, CSKA (12-16), is also seeking stability after a 5-2 road loss to Dinamo Minsk on Thursday. That defeat came just two days after a decisive 4-1 win over Ak Bars Kazan, highlighting the team’s erratic form.

The Red Army club won the last head-to-head meeting, a 4-3 victory in Saint Petersburg on Oct. 22. SKA will aim for revenge on the road, where they have had recent success with wins at Dynamo Moscow and Avangard Omsk earlier this month.

Key players to watch for SKA include forwards Dmitry Buchelnikov and Vitaly Abramov, who each scored a goal in the team’s last game against CSKA.

Following this Moscow derby, SKA embarks on a lengthy road trip, while CSKA prepares for a home contest against Lada Togliatti on Thursday.
