Metallurg Magnitogorsk at Amur Khabarovsk

KHABAROVSK, Russia (Interstat) — Metallurg Magnitogorsk used a dominant first-period offensive outburst to secure a 3-1 victory over Amur Khabarovsk in a Kontinental Hockey League match on Friday night at Platinum Arena.

The visiting Metallurg, one of the league’s top teams, struck three times in the opening frame, overwhelming the home side and setting a tone that would hold for the remainder of the contest. The win improved Metallurg’s formidable record to 18-6 across all competitions this season, while Amur fell to 9-14.

Goaltender Alexander S. Smolin was the backbone of the victory for Metallurg Magnitogorsk, turning aside 28 of the 29 shots he faced to anchor his team’s defense after the early lead was established.

The scoring commenced just 4 minutes and 27 seconds into the game. Dmitry Silantyev netted his 11th goal of the season, with assists credited to Vladimir E. Tkachyov and Roman Kantserov.

The momentum continued unabated for the visitors. Shortly after an Amur penalty to Viktor Baldayev for tripping, Metallurg capitalized on the ensuing pressure. At the 7:56 mark, Kantserov scored his 15th goal, with Tkachyov collecting his second assist of the period and Yegor Yakovlev also helping on the play.

Before the first intermission, Metallurg extended its lead to three. Ruslan Iskhakov found the back of the net at 15:43, with Valery Orekhov and Makar Khabarov providing the assists. The period was a showcase of Metallurg’s firepower, effectively deciding the game’s outcome within the first 20 minutes.

Amur managed to break through Smolin’s guard in the third period. At the 10:49 mark of the final frame, Alexander Filatyev scored his first goal of the season, a power-play tally assisted by Artyom Shvaryov, to cut the deficit to two.

Despite the late push and a couple of power-play opportunities, Amur could not mount a full comeback. The teams traded minor penalties in the latter half of the third period, but the score remained unchanged.

Key performers for Metallurg included Kantserov, who finished with a goal and an assist, and Tkachyov, who contributed two assists. For Amur, defenseman Raul Akmaldinov logged significant minutes in the losing effort.

The result aligned closely with pregame projections from Interstat, whose game simulator had predicted a 3-2 Metallurg victory and whose ELO system gave the visitors a 79.30 percent probability of winning.

Metallurg Magnitogorsk continues its road trip Sunday at Barys Astana. Amur Khabarovsk remains at home to host Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg, also on Sunday.
