Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk at Traktor Chelyabinsk

CHELYABINSK, Russia (Interstat) — Evgeny Mityakin and Andrei Belozyorov each scored twice to power Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk to a 4-3 victory over Traktor Chelyabinsk in a Kontinental Hockey League matchup on Wednesday night at Traktor Sport Palace.

The win improved Neftekhimik’s record to 13-11, pushing them above .500, while Traktor fell to 11-12.

Mityakin set the tone early, scoring just 55 seconds into the first period to give the visitors a lead they would not relinquish. The forward added a crucial second-period goal and an assist for a three-point night. His linemate, Belozyorov, was equally dominant, netting a power-play goal in the first and another in the second, also finishing with three points.

Traktor, which was projected as a heavy favorite by Interstat’s ELO system with a 74.5 percent probability to win, struggled to solve Neftekhimik goaltender Filipp Dolganov for much of the game. Dolganov was stellar in net, turning aside 38 of 41 shots to secure the win.

After Belozyorov’s second goal made it 3-0 for Neftekhimik late in the second period, Traktor finally broke through. Joshua Leivo put the home team on the board with a goal at 17:08 of the second, assisted by Arseny Koromyslov and Jordan Gross. The momentum was short-lived, however, as Mityakin answered just 48 seconds later to restore the three-goal cushion.

Traktor mounted a third-period comeback attempt. Mikhail Goryunov-Rolgizer cut the deficit to two with a goal midway through the final frame, set up by Gross and Koromyslov. With their net empty for an extra attacker, Traktor pulled within one on a goal from defenseman Jordan Gross with just 45 seconds remaining in regulation. The defenseman led his team with a goal and two assists.

Neftekhimik managed to kill the final seconds, however, securing the road victory. The game was a reversal of the two teams’ previous meetings this season, both won by Traktor by a single goal.

The contest was relatively disciplined, with the teams combining for just five minor penalties. Neftekhimik capitalized on one of its two power-play opportunities, while Traktor failed to score on its two chances.

Neftekhimik continues its road stretch with a game against Salavat Yulaev Ufa on Friday. Traktor embarks on a road trip, facing Admiral Vladivostok on Sunday.
