Spartak Moscow at HC Sochi
SOCHI, Russia (Interstat) — Spartak Moscow looks to continue its winning form against the struggling HC Sochi when the Kontinental Hockey League teams meet Sunday at the Bolshoy Ice Dome.
The visiting Spartak (11-9-0) enters the contest on a high after a 3-2 victory over CSKA Moscow on Tuesday. The line of Adam Ruzicka, Mikhail Maltsev and Nathan Todd was particularly effective in that win, with each forward recording a goal and an assist.
Spartak has dominated the recent head-to-head matchups, defeating Sochi twice this season. The teams met just a week ago, with Spartak securing a 5-3 home victory on Oct. 26. They also beat Sochi 4-3 on Sept. 7.
Sochi (4-13-0) is mired in a deep slump, having lost six of its last seven games. The team is coming off an 8-2 road loss to Dinamo Minsk on Tuesday, a game in which Timur Khafizov and Nikolai Polyakov managed to score but the defense was overwhelmed.
The game presents a clear contrast in fortunes. Spartak has shown it can compete with the league’s top teams, while Sochi has been outscored 30-8 in its last four contests alone. Spartak will aim to capitalize on its offensive momentum, while Sochi desperately seeks to find stability on its home ice in Nizhneimeretinskaya Bukhta.
The teams are scheduled for a quick rematch at the same venue on Tuesday.
