Dynamo Moscow at Red Star Kunlun

MYTISHCHI, Russia (Interstat) — In a dominant road performance, Dynamo Moscow avenged a recent loss to the Shanghai Dragons with a decisive 5-1 victory in a Kontinental Hockey League matchup Tuesday afternoon at Municipal‘nyj Stadion Stroitel‘.

The win, which surpassed the Interstat game simulator’s projection of a 4-3 Dynamo victory, improved Dynamo’s record to 11-7-0. The Dragons fell to 10-9-0 with the loss. Interstat’s ELO system had given Dynamo a 72.70 percent probability to win.

Dynamo set the tone early, with Artyom Ilyenko opening the scoring just over three minutes into the first period. Ilyenko’s fourth goal of the season, assisted by Artyom Sergeyev and Maxim Dzhioshvili, gave the visitors a lead they would not relinquish.

The first period was defined by a parade to the penalty box, with the teams combining for six minor penalties. Shanghai was assessed three consecutive infractions, but Dynamo was unable to capitalize on the extended power-play time. The period ended with Dynamo holding a 1-0 lead and a significant advantage in momentum.

Dynamo extended its lead early in the second period. At the 10:36 mark, Artyom Shvets-Rogovoi netted his fourth goal of the season, with assists from Anton Slepyshev and Daniil Pylenkov.

Shanghai responded less than two minutes later to cut the deficit. Austin Wagner scored his third of the season, assisted by Nate Sucese, to make it 2-1 and briefly give the home team life.

Any Dragons momentum was short-lived, however, as Dynamo reclaimed control in the third period. Dylan Sikura restored the two-goal cushion just 11 seconds into the final frame, scoring his fourth goal with helpers from Jordan Weal and Igor Ozhiganov.

Just under two minutes later, Ilyenko struck again for his second goal of the game and fifth of the season, with Dzhioshvili picking up his second assist of the afternoon, pushing the lead to 4-1.

Dynamo sealed the victory with under five minutes to play as Cedric Paquette scored his sixth goal of the campaign. The empty-net tally was assisted by Nikita Gusev and Ozhiganov, who recorded his second helper of the period.

The game was a measure of revenge for Dynamo, which had lost 3-2 to the Dragons in Shanghai just two weeks prior on Oct. 14. The teams had also met on Oct. 16, a 3-2 shootout victory for Dynamo, and on Sept. 24, a 3-2 overtime win for Dynamo.

The contest featured a physical edge, with Dynamo’s Maxime Comtois receiving a 10-minute misconduct penalty late in the third period. Overall, Dynamo was assessed 20 penalty minutes to Shanghai’s 8.

The victory continues a strong stretch for Dynamo, which has now won four of its last five games, including a 5-0 shutout of Spartak Moscow on Oct. 23. The loss snaps a two-game winning streak for the Shanghai Dragons, who had defeated Dinamo Minsk in a shootout on Oct. 24.

Dynamo Moscow will continue its road trip Thursday at Severstal Cherepovets. The Shanghai Dragons are next in action Saturday, Nov. 1, at Severstal Cherepovets. The two teams are scheduled to meet again in Moscow on Monday, Nov. 10.
