Sibir Novosibirsk at Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk

NIZHNEKAMSK, Russia (Interstat) — Two teams looking to halt losing streaks will face off Sunday when Sibir Novosibirsk visits Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk in a Kontinental Hockey League matchup at SCC Arena.

Sibir (5-7-0) arrives after a 4-2 road loss to Lada Togliatti on Friday. Forwards Sergei Shirokov and Scott Wilson each scored a goal in the defeat, with Shirokov leading the team with five shots on goal. The loss snapped a brief two-game winning streak for Sibir, which had previously secured a 1-0 shootout victory over Barys Astana.

The home side, Neftekhimik (7-7-0), is also seeking to rebound from a loss, having fallen 4-1 to Amur Khabarovsk on Thursday. Forward Damir Zhafyarov provided the lone goal in that contest, while Evgeny Mityakin recorded an assist. The loss was Neftekhimik’s third in a row after a promising start to the season.

The game presents a key opportunity for both clubs to steady their campaigns. Sibir has struggled on the road this season, while Neftekhimik will look to reclaim its early-season home-ice form, which included a 5-4 overtime win over Lokomotiv Yaroslavl.

Following this contest, Sibir continues its road trip with a game at Barys Astana on Tuesday. Neftekhimik embarks on a three-game road swing, starting at SKA Saint Petersburg on Wednesday.
