Barys Astana at Sibir Novosibirsk
NOVOSIBIRSK, Russia (Interstat) — Barys Astana (5-5-0) visits Sibir Novosibirsk (4-6-0) in a Kontinental Hockey League matchup Sunday at Ice Sports Palace Sibir, a quick rematch after a high-scoring affair a week prior.
The teams last met on Sept. 27 in Astana, where Barys secured a 6-4 victory. Both clubs, however, enter this contest looking to rebound from decisive losses on Wednesday. Barys was routed 5-1 by Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, while Sibir fell 5-2 to Salavat Yulaev Ufa.
Barys has been inconsistent, alternating wins and losses over its last five games. Forwards Ansar Shaikhmeddenov and Dinmukhamed Kaiyrzhan have been active shooters, combining for eight shots in the loss to Lokomotiv.
Sibir has struggled to find consistency, dropping three of its last four games. In their recent loss, Vladimir Tkachyov and Timur Akhiyarov provided offensive sparks, each scoring a goal.
The game kicks off a home-and-home series, with the teams set to meet again in Astana on Oct. 14. Barys begins a two-game road trip, while Sibir opens a brief two-game homestand before heading out on a lengthy six-game road swing.
