Sibir Novosibirsk at Barys Astana
ASTANA, Kazakhstan (Interstat) — A pair of Kontinental Hockey League teams looking to build momentum will meet Saturday when Sibir Novosibirsk visits Barys Astana at Barys Arena.
Sibir (4-3-0) arrives after a 3-2 shootout victory over Salavat Yulaev Ufa on Wednesday. Forward Vladimir Tkachyov led the way with a goal and an assist, while goaltender Anton Krasotkin made 35 saves. The win snapped a two-game home losing streak for Sibir, which has found more success on the road this season, winning two of three games away from Novosibirsk.
Barys (3-4-0) looks to rebound from a 2-1 home loss to Ak Bars Kazan on Thursday. Forward Michael Vecchione scored the lone goal for Barys, which has struggled defensively, allowing four or more goals in three of its four losses. The team has a 2-2 record on home ice.
The matchup is the first of four between the clubs this season. They will meet again in Novosibirsk on Oct. 5 and back in Astana on Oct. 14.
Following this game, Sibir continues a road trip at Metallurg Magnitogorsk on Monday. Barys remains at home to host Admiral Vladivostok the same night.
