Twins edge Giants in 10 innings on Moon’s five-hit night
BUSAN (Interstat) — The LG Twins scored in the top of the 10th inning and defeated the Lotte Giants 4-3 at Busan Sajik Baseball Stadium on Saturday evening. The game drew an announced attendance of 23,200 and went into extra innings after Lotte tied the score in the ninth. LG improved to 74-66-5, while Lotte fell to 62-75-6. The Twins finished with 12 hits, while the Giants had 10. The win came in the second game of the weekend series, giving LG a split after the Giants had taken the opener.
LG opened the scoring in the second. Moon Jeong-bin doubled to left-center and scored when Song Chan-eui doubled down the left-field line. Lotte answered in the bottom half. Han Dong-hui doubled to left, and Go Seung-min doubled down the right-field line to drive him in. The Twins regained the lead in the third. Shin Min-jae singled to center, Hong Chang-ki walked, and Moon Jeong-bin singled to right field to score Shin. LG added another run in the fifth. Park Hae-min was hit by a pitch, and Moon Jeong-bin doubled to right field to bring him home. Lotte starter Na Gyun-an then kept the Twins off the scoreboard over his final two innings. He finished seven innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Tolhurst had retired Lotte in order in the first, getting Hwang Seong-bin on a groundout, Víctor Reyes on a flyout and Na Seung-yeup on a popup.
Lotte trailed by two entering the ninth, but the Giants rallied. Jang Du-seong doubled down the left-field line, and after a walk and a groundout, Na Seung-yeup singled to right field. The hit scored Kim Dong-hyeok and Jang Du-seong, tying the game. Han Dong-hui walked later in the inning, but Go Seung-min popped out to second, and the game moved to extra innings. The Giants had 10 hits and several chances earlier. In the sixth, Han Dong-hui doubled again and Go Seung-min was hit by a pitch, but Jeon Min-jae flied out and Son Seong-bin grounded out. In the seventh, Jang Du-seong walked and Víctor Reyes singled, but Na Seung-yeup lined out. In the eighth, Han doubled and Go walked before Son grounded into a double play. Han Dong-hui finished 3-for-4 with three doubles. Go Seung-min also doubled and drove in a run. Lotte’s bullpen kept the game tied until the 10th, with Lee Jun-seo and Park Jeong-min combining for scoreless relief work.
In the 10th, LG manufactured the winning run. Austin Dean flied out to center for the first out. Moon Jeong-bin then reached on an infield single to the left side. Moon Bo-gyeong singled to right field, and Choi Won-yeong advanced to third. Song Chan-eui followed with an infield single to the left side, scoring Choi Won-yeong with the go-ahead run. Gu Bon-hyeok popped out to short, and Park Dong-won struck out, but the Twins had the lead. LG’s bullpen then closed out Lotte in the bottom half to seal the victory. The decisive sequence gave Song two RBIs in the game and made a winner of the LG relief corps. Shin Min-jae had doubled in the ninth for LG, but he was stranded at third when Hong Chang-ki grounded out and Park Hae-min flied out.
Moon Jeong-bin was the top star for LG, going 5-for-5 with two RBIs. He doubled in the second, singled in the third, doubled in the fifth, singled in the eighth and singled in the 10th. His fifth hit started the winning rally. Moon had entered the series after a 2-for-3 game with a home run in the series opener, and he continued that production with the best game of the night. His two RBIs came on a third-inning single and a fifth-inning double. He also scored once, in the second inning, after his first double. The five-hit performance powered an LG offense that collected 12 hits overall and scored in four separate innings.
LG starter Anders Tolhurst pitched five innings, allowing one earned run on four hits. Go Woo-suk followed with 1 2/3 innings of one-hit, scoreless relief. Lee Woo-chan worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings with one strikeout, and Kim Jin-su recorded one out while allowing one hit and one walk. The bullpen’s work became especially important after Lotte tied the game in the ninth. Lotte’s Na Gyun-an took a no-decision despite a strong line: seven innings, seven hits, three earned runs, one walk and five strikeouts. Lee Jun-seo and Park Jeong-min helped keep LG off the board in the middle innings, and the Giants stayed within reach until the final inning. LG went down in order in the first on a flyout by Hong Chang-ki, a popout by Park Hae-min and a strikeout by Austin Dean.
Lotte’s offense was led by Han Dong-hui, who went 3-for-4 with three doubles. He scored once and consistently put pressure on the LG pitching staff. Go Seung-min doubled and drove in Han in the second inning. Na Seung-yeup delivered the biggest hit for Lotte, a two-run single in the ninth that tied the game. Jang Du-seong doubled and scored the tying run. Víctor Reyes also singled and reached base on an error, while Hwang Seong-bin and Yoon Dong-hee contributed defensive plays and plate appearances. Jeon Min-jae singled in the fourth, and Jang Du-seong singled and stole second in the fifth. Yoon Dong-hee grounded out in the fifth, and Hwang Seong-bin flied out and Víctor Reyes grounded out. The Giants finished with 10 hits but could not push across the final run.
The Twins’ victory gave them a 74-66-5 record and continued their late-season push. Lotte dropped to 62-75-6. Lotte had won the previous meeting between the teams, and LG responded with a one-run victory in extra innings. LG’s next game is at Kia, while Lotte is scheduled to visit Kia and Doosan. The Twins’ 12-hit attack was balanced, with Moon Jeong-bin leading the way and Song Chan-eui providing two RBIs. Park Hae-min and Shin Min-jae each contributed key plate appearances, while Hong Chang-ki and Gu Bon-hyeok helped move runners into scoring position.
