Choi Won-jun powers KT Wiz past Doosan Bears
SUWON-SI (Interstat) — Choi Won-jun had four hits and drove in four runs, Daniel Davis worked six solid innings and the KT Wiz routed the Doosan Bears 15-3 on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 19, 2026, at Suwon Baseball Stadium. The Wiz collected 16 hits and took control with a pair of five-run innings, improving to 72-46-5. The Bears finished with six hits and fell to 61-59-5. An announced crowd of 18,700 watched the home team pull away after an early back-and-forth start. KT scored in five separate innings and used a balanced offensive attack to support Davis, who earned his second win of the season. Doosan scored three runs but could not keep pace once the Wiz lineup found rhythm in the middle innings. The game was played during the afternoon and marked another strong home performance for KT, which bounced back from a 12-1 loss to the LG Twins on Friday. Doosan had tied the Kiwoom Heroes 6-6 in 11 innings Friday.
Doosan opened the scoring with two runs in the first inning and added another in the second. KT got one run back in the first. The Bears had some early success against Davis, stringing together hits and taking advantage of a defensive miscue to build their short-lived lead. Yunior Severino doubled in the first and drove in a run. Jung Soo-bin also contributed to the early offense, and Kim Dae-han later drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Park Chan-ho and An Jae-seok helped create traffic near the top of the order. But Doosan’s bats went quiet for long stretches after that. The Bears managed only six hits overall and never produced the kind of big inning needed to answer KT’s surge. Their best chances came early, and they could not string together enough quality at-bats once KT’s pitchers settled in.
KT answered with two runs in the fourth, then broke the game open with five runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth. The Wiz added two runs in the seventh to complete the scoring. Choi was the central figure throughout, finishing 4 for 4 with one home run and four RBIs. He singled in the third, homered in the fifth, singled in the sixth and doubled in the seventh. He reached base consistently, drove the ball to all fields and delivered the key hit during KT’s decisive stretch. Sam Hilliard also powered the offense, going 4 for 5 with one home run and one RBI. Heo Kyoung-min drove in three runs while going 1 for 2, and Kwon Dong-jin added two RBIs on a 1-for-2 afternoon. Kim Hyun-soo went 2 for 4 with one RBI. The Wiz kept pressure on Doosan’s pitching staff from the middle innings onward and turned a close game into a rout.
Davis earned the win after allowing one earned run on six hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out five. He improved to 2-1 on the season. Yun Tae-ho took the loss for Doosan and fell to 1-1. Doosan starter Choi Seung-yong pitched 4 2/3 innings, giving up three earned runs on four hits with three walks and four strikeouts. KT’s bullpen then closed the door. Jeon Yong-ju struck out two in a scoreless inning. Kim Jeong-woon struck out one in a scoreless inning. Mon Yong-ik worked a scoreless inning with one walk and one strikeout. The relief trio did not allow a hit and kept Doosan from mounting any late comeback. Davis’s outing gave KT exactly what it needed, and the bullpen finish made sure the lead stayed comfortable.
Doosan’s offense had limited chances after the early innings. Park Chan-ho and An Jae-seok helped create traffic near the top of the order, while Kim Min-suk and Severino also reached base. The Bears collected six hits and scored three runs, but they could not match KT’s sustained production. A double by Jung Soo-bin put a runner in scoring position, and Kim Dae-han’s sacrifice fly brought home a run. Those moments kept Doosan within reach for a while, but the Wiz pulled away as their lineup piled up hits and RBIs. KT finished with 16 hits and repeatedly took advantage of walks, hit batters and defensive mistakes. Doosan’s bullpen could not stop the momentum once KT began its middle-inning rally.
The victory moved KT to 72 wins, 46 losses and 5 ties. Doosan dropped to 61 wins, 59 losses and 5 ties. The Wiz have been one of the league’s more consistent teams, and the win added to their strong home record. Doosan, meanwhile, continued a stretch of uneven play. The Bears had entered the series looking to build momentum, but they could not slow KT’s offense once the middle innings began. Earlier in the season, the teams had played a series in late August that included a 0-0 tie in 11 innings, a 5-4 KT win and a 3-1 Doosan win. The teams are scheduled to meet again Sunday at Suwon Baseball Stadium. KT will then travel to face the Shinsegae Landers, while Doosan will visit the Kiwoom Heroes after the weekend series.
Choi’s performance stood out as the game’s top star turn. His four hits and four RBIs set the tone for KT. Hilliard’s four-hit game gave the Wiz another consistent threat. Heo’s three RBIs and Kwon’s two RBIs provided additional production from the lower part of the order. Kim Hyun-soo added two hits and one RBI. Davis’s six innings gave the bullpen a manageable workload, and the relievers responded with three hitless innings. Doosan’s Choi Seung-yong kept the Bears close early, but the offense could not provide enough support. The afternoon belonged to the home team, which improved its standing with a decisive victory. Choi had entered the game with just two hits in his previous three games, but he delivered his best performance of the season at the plate.
Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of KT Wiz 6, Doosan Bears 3. Interstat’s ELO system had projected KT with a 60.8 percent probability to win. KT had been installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of -1.5. The total score of 18 went under the over/under line of 10.0.
