KT at Samsung
DAEGU, South Korea (Interstat) — The KT Wiz and Samsung Lions, locked in a tight battle atop the Korea Baseball Organization standings, meet Sunday for a doubleheader at Daegu Samsung Lions Park.
First pitch for the afternoon game is scheduled for 2 p.m. local time, with the evening contest set for 6 p.m. The forecast calls for clouds and 76 degrees.
The Lions (43-30-2) hold a slim half-game lead over the second-place Wiz (43-31-1). Samsung has won the first two games of this three-game set, including a 4-3 victory Saturday that featured a pitchers’ duel between the two starters slated for Sunday’s doubleheader.
Right-hander Logan Allen (0-2, 3.27 ERA) will start the opener for KT. Allen took the loss Saturday despite a solid outing, allowing two earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts over six innings. In his previous start June 21 against Kia, he allowed two earned runs in five innings.
Left-hander Won Tae-in (8-4, 3.12) will start for Samsung. He earned the win Saturday, allowing one earned run on seven hits with five strikeouts over five innings. Won has been sharp in his last two outings, combining for one earned run over 11 innings, but has been less consistent against KT this season, surrendering four earned runs in a June 10 loss at Suwon.
Samsung has dominated the season series, winning seven of 10 meetings. The Lions have outscored the Wiz 59-33 in those contests, including a 9-1 win Friday and an 8-5 win May 21 in Daegu. KT’s last win against Samsung came June 10, a 4-3 victory in Suwon.
The Wiz are coming off a series split with Shinsegae, taking two of three games June 23-25. Samsung swept a two-game set from LG on June 24-25, then lost two of three at Hanwha.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 Samsung victory for the opener, with the Lions holding a 56.7% win probability according to ELO ratings.
After Sunday, KT travels to Hanwha for a three-game series starting Tuesday. Samsung heads to NC for a three-game set beginning Tuesday.
