Kia at Doosan
SEOUL, South Korea (Interstat) — The Kia Tigers visit Jamsil Stadium on Sunday to face the Doosan Bears in a critical Korea Baseball Organization matchup at 2 p.m., with first pitch set under cloudy skies and 87-degree heat.
Kia (41-35-1) enters the afternoon contest holding a 3.5-game lead over the Bears (38-37-1) in the standings, but Doosan has controlled the season series recently. The Bears have won three of the last four meetings, including a 8-1 rout Saturday and a 3-2 walk-off victory Friday.
Right-hander Shirakawa Keisho (5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 5 K in Saturday’s loss) will take the mound for Kia. The Japanese import has been inconsistent over his last five starts, alternating quality outings — including a 5.0-inning, four-strikeout shutout of Lotte on June 4 — with short, ineffective performances. He lasted just 3.2 innings against Hanwha on June 10, allowing three earned runs.
Doosan counters with left-hander Zach Logue, who dominated Kia on Saturday with 7.1 innings, three hits, one earned run and four strikeouts for his second win in three decisions. Logue’s June has been erratic: he was shelled for four earned runs in one inning against LG on June 21 after posting a 4.0-inning, three-strikeout win over Hanwha on June 4.
The Bears own a 6-4 advantage in the season series, though Kia took two of three in Seoul in mid-May. Doosan’s offense has been potent at home, scoring eight runs in each of the last two wins. Kia’s lineup has scuffled in the series, managing just three total runs across two games.
Both teams face quick turnarounds: Kia hosts Shinsegae Landers on Tuesday, while Doosan welcomes Lotte. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-3 Kia victory, with ELO giving the Tigers a 50.9 percent win probability.
Sunday’s game marks the series finale before both clubs pivot to extended homestands. For Kia, a win would maintain their hold on a wild-card spot; for Doosan, a sweep would pull them within 2.5 games.
