Kia at Doosan
SEOUL (Interstat) — The Kia Tigers visit the Doosan Bears on Saturday afternoon at Jamsil Stadium, with first pitch set under cloudy skies and 85-degree heat in a pivotal Korea Baseball Organization series.
Kia (41-34-1) holds a four-game lead over Doosan (37-37-1) in the standings, but the Bears have won four of the past five head-to-head meetings, including a 3-2 victory Friday. Doosan’s Gwak Been (6.0 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 5 K) dominated in that win, while Kia’s Hwang Dong-ha took the loss despite a quality start (5.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 K).
Saturday’s pitching rematch features the same starters. Hwang, 1-1 with a 3.21 ERA in his past three outings, seeks redemption after allowing two earned runs in each of his last two starts. He held Doosan to two runs Friday but received no run support.
Gwak has been lights out against Kia this season, posting a 0.69 ERA across 13 innings in two starts, striking out 12 and allowing just one earned run. He has won two straight decisions overall and boasts a 1.42 ERA in his last four appearances.
Kia comes in having won five of its past six games before Friday’s loss, including a three-game sweep at Kiwoom. The Tigers’ offense has been potent, averaging 7.7 runs during that stretch. Doosan has won three of its last four, taking two of three at Hanwha before Friday’s win.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-3 Kia victory, with the Tigers holding a 52 percent win probability per the ELO system.
The series continues Sunday at Jamsil. Kia returns home Tuesday to host Shinsegae, while Doosan welcomes Lotte.
