Doosan at Hanwha

DAEJEON, South Korea (Interstat) — A tightly contested Korea Baseball Organization series continues Wednesday evening when the Doosan Bears visit the Hanwha Eagles at Daejeon Hanbat Baseball Stadium. The teams enter the game separated by just one game in the standings, with Hanwha holding a 34-35-2 record and Doosan sitting at 34-37-2. First pitch is set for 73 degrees under cloudy skies.

Hanwha will send left-hander Ryu Hyun-jin to the mound. Ryu, the veteran former major leaguer, has been a steady force this season. In his most recent start Tuesday against Doosan, he earned the win, allowing two earned runs on five hits over six innings with two strikeouts. Over his last six starts, Ryu has posted a 1.50 ERA across 34 innings, striking out 21 while allowing just six earned runs. His command and ability to work deep into games have made him a reliable anchor for the Eagles’ rotation.

Doosan will counter with a bullpen-heavy approach after starter Lee Yong-chan struggled in Tuesday’s 3-2 loss to Hanwha. Lee worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief Tuesday, continuing a remarkable stretch of dominance. Over his last 10 appearances, the right-hander has allowed no earned runs in 11 innings, striking out 14 while yielding just three hits. Lee has been particularly effective against Hanwha this season, throwing 2 1/3 scoreless innings across two outings this month, striking out four.

The Bears will look to snap a four-game losing streak after dropping Tuesday’s opener. Doosan’s offense managed just two runs on four hits against Ryu and the Hanwha bullpen, with key contributions limited. Takada Takuto provided a bright spot, allowing one earned run over 3 2/3 innings in relief, while Kim Jeong-woo tossed a scoreless frame.

Hanwha’s offense has been buoyed by timely hitting. In Tuesday’s win, outfielder Yonathan Perlaza went 2-for-4 with a home run and an RBI, and third baseman Roh Si-hwan added two hits, including a homer and two RBIs. The Eagles have won three straight and five of their last seven at home.

The season series is competitive: Hanwha has won six of the nine meetings, but Doosan won three straight in early June and has shown it can score against the Eagles’ staff. The Bears’ next 10 games include a home stand against Kia and Lotte before a trip to Kiwoom. Hanwha’s upcoming schedule features a road series against Shinsegae and a home set with KT.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 3-1 Doosan victory, though the ELO system gives Hanwha a 58.1 percent probability of winning.
