Doosan at Hanwha

DAEJEON, South Korea (Interstat) — The Doosan Bears and the Hanwha Eagles open a three-game series Tuesday night at Daejeon Hanbat Baseball Stadium, with both teams hovering near .500 and seeking momentum in the KBO standings.

First pitch is scheduled for the evening under a forecast of 70 degrees Fahrenheit and rain.

Doosan (34-36-2) sends right-hander Park Shin-zi to the mound. Park has been sharp in limited recent duty, allowing one earned run over his last five innings across three appearances. In his most recent outing Sunday at LG, he tossed two scoreless innings with one hit allowed and one strikeout in a 9-3 loss. Park faced Hanwha on June 3, working three innings and yielding one earned run on four hits in a 3-3 tie.

Hanwha (33-35-2) counters with right-hander Owen White. White delivered a quality start Sunday against Samsung, allowing two earned runs on seven hits over seven innings with three strikeouts in a 3-1 defeat. He has been inconsistent but effective over longer outings, including seven-inning starts against Kia on June 10 (one earned run, win) and Shinsegae on May 29 (three earned runs, win). White faced Doosan on June 4, taking the loss after giving up two earned runs on five hits over six innings in a 3-1 defeat.

The Eagles have struggled at home against the Bears this season despite a May sweep at this ballpark. In the three-game set May 22-24 in Daejeon, Hanwha won each game 5-2, 5-2 and 5-3. The teams split a two-game series in early June at Doosan, with the Bears winning 5-3 on June 2, playing to a 3-3 tie on June 3, and taking a 3-1 decision on June 4.

Doosan enters the game having lost four straight, including a 9-3 defeat Sunday at LG. The Bears allowed nine runs on 13 hits in that contest but got scoreless relief from Park, Choi Ji-kang and Kim Jeong-woo. Hanwha has dropped three of its last four, with its only win in that span a 10-4 victory over Samsung on Saturday.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 3-1 Doosan victory, but the ELO system gives Hanwha a 57.6 percent probability of winning.

The series continues Wednesday and Thursday before both teams head into weekend sets. Doosan travels to face Kia at home, while Hanwha visits Shinsegae Landers.
