Kia at Kiwoom
SEOUL, South Korea (Interstat) — The first-place Kia Tigers take their six-game winning streak against the Kiwoom Heroes to Gocheok Sky Dome on Tuesday evening, looking to extend their dominance over the last-place club.
Kia (38-33-1) enters the 6 p.m. contest coming off a 11-5 victory Sunday against KT Wiz. The Tigers have won four of their last five games and own a comfortable hold on the top of the standings. Kiwoom (26-46-1) has lost 10 of its last 11 and is mired in last place.
The Tigers have swept the season series, winning all six meetings. Kia outscored the Heroes 26-7 during a three-game sweep in Gwangju in April, then won three more at Gocheok Sky Dome in May by a combined 19-4 margin.
Right-hander Shirakawa Keisho is expected to start for Kia. The 25-year-old earned the win Sunday against KT Wiz, allowing two earned runs on three hits with five strikeouts over four innings. He has been inconsistent this season, posting a 3.42 ERA over his last three outings. In his best start of June, he threw five scoreless innings against Lotte on June 4.
Kiwoom counters with Bae Dong-hyun. The right-hander took the loss Sunday against Lotte, surrendering five earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts over five innings. He has struggled with run support this season, as the Heroes have scored three or fewer runs in each of his last five starts. Despite a 4.0 ERA over that span, he is 0-4.
Kia’s offense has been powered recently by first baseman Harold Castro, who went 2-for-4 with three RBIs on Sunday. The Tigers bullpen has also been sharp, anchored by Choi Ji-min, who struck out three in a perfect inning against KT.
Kiwoom’s pitching staff has been depleted, and the team managed just three runs in Sunday’s loss. Relievers Kanakubo Yuto and Kim Seong-jin each threw a scoreless inning in the loss.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-2 Kia win, and the ELO system gives the Tigers a 64.8 percent probability of victory.
The teams conclude the three-game series Wednesday and Thursday before Kia travels to Doosan and Kiwoom visits NC Dinos.
