KT at NC
CHANGWON, South Korea (Interstat) — The KT Wiz carry the KBO’s best record into Masan Baseball Stadium on Thursday night for a rematch against the NC Dinos, with two starters meeting again after Wednesday’s duel.
First pitch is scheduled for the evening under cloudy skies with temperatures near 79 degrees. KT enters at 60-37-2, while NC is 44-51-1. The Wiz have dominated the season series, winning eight of 10 meetings, including three straight before Wednesday’s 3-0 loss.
KT’s So Hyeong-jun is the pitcher to watch. In Wednesday’s loss, So worked seven innings, allowed four hits and one earned run and struck out eight. He earlier beat Hanwha on July 31 with five innings and three earned runs, and he defeated Lotte on July 25, allowing one run over 6 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts.
NC counters with Koo Chang-mo, who outpitched So on Wednesday. Koo threw seven scoreless innings, surrendered two hits and struck out five. But the Dinos’ left-hander was hit hard in his previous turn against KT on July 30, allowing six earned runs in five innings. He also lost at Shinsegae on July 24, giving up five earned runs in five innings.
Wednesday’s win snapped a rough stretch for NC, which had gone 1-3-2 in its previous six games. KT, meanwhile, has won eight of its past 12 contests and has shown the ability to erupt against NC pitching. The Wiz scored double-digit runs against the Dinos on July 28, 29 and 30 before being shut out Wednesday.
The Dinos’ bullpen helped secure Wednesday’s win as Chun Sa-min and Kim Jin-ho each threw a scoreless inning after Koo’s exit. But NC’s offense has struggled to score consistently, and the Dinos were blanked in that series finale.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-2 KT victory, and Interstat’s ELO system gives the Wiz a 54.9 percent probability to win. NC is listed at +1.5 on the run line, with the over/under set at 10.5 runs.
Thursday’s game also carries momentum into the weekend. KT opens a home series Friday against Kiwoom Heroes, then travels to LG Twins from Aug. 18-20. NC heads to Lotte Giants for three games beginning Friday, then hosts Doosan Bears next Tuesday through Thursday.
For Koo and the Dinos, Thursday offers a chance to show Wednesday’s result was real. For KT, it is another opportunity to prove why it owns the best record in the league.
