LG at Doosan

SEOUL, South Korea (Interstat) — The LG Twins look to build on their series lead against the Doosan Bears on Sunday night at Jamsil Stadium.

LG (55-43-3) enters on top of the season series, holding a 6-3-1 edge over Doosan (51-45-2). The teams played an 11-inning tie Saturday, 2-2, after Doosan won Friday’s opener 4-2. Sunday’s game is set for the evening under cloudy skies and 87-degree heat.

Doosan’s player to watch is Gwak Been, who was sharp in Saturday’s tie. He allowed two earned runs over six innings, scattering six hits while striking out 10. In his previous start, July 26 against Samsung, Gwak threw six scoreless innings with eight strikeouts in a 7-0 victory. On July 8 against Shinsegae, he went seven innings, allowing one run with seven strikeouts.

LG’s most recent result was also Saturday’s tie, and its top contributors came from the pitching staff. An LG starter threw seven scoreless innings with two strikeouts, while relievers Kim Jin-su and Kim Jin-sung each added a scoreless inning. Kim Jin-sung struck out one.

The Twins have been inconsistent of late, going 2-6-2 in their past 10 games. They lost Friday before Saturday’s tie, and they have split results against Doosan throughout the season. LG swept a three-game set at home in June, but Doosan has kept recent meetings close.

Doosan enters with Gwak leading a staff that has been solid in spurts. The Bears won Thursday at Shinsegae 5-3, lost Wednesday 6-2 and won Tuesday 2-1 in 10 innings. Doosan also swept a weekend series against Samsung at home, including a 7-0 win Sunday in which Gwak started.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-3 final score in favor of Doosan. Interstat’s Elo system gives LG a 54.30 percent probability to win, and LG is installed as a 1.5-run favorite. The over/under is 7.5.

The game is the middle contest of a three-game weekend series. After Sunday, LG travels to face Shinsegae on Tuesday, while Doosan hosts NC Dinos on Tuesday.

Jamsil Stadium has been a frequent site of tight games between these rivals. In their past 10 meetings, six were decided by two runs or fewer, and Saturday’s tie added another close chapter. With both teams near the top of the standings, Sunday’s nightcap carries early August weight.

Doosan will try to even the weekend series at one win apiece and further close the gap in the season series. LG, meanwhile, hopes to rebound after Friday’s loss and avoid surrendering momentum in the division race.
