Kia at Samsung

DAEGU, South Korea (Interstat) — The Samsung Lions host the Kia Tigers on Wednesday evening at Daegu Samsung Lions Park, with first pitch scheduled under cloudy skies and 88-degree temperatures.

Samsung (58-35-1) enters with the best record in the Korea Baseball Organization, while Kia (50-45-2) looks to rebound from a 12-5 loss here Tuesday night in the series opener. The Lions have won six of the past nine meetings between the clubs this season.

Kia’s Harold Castro is a player to watch. The left fielder homered and drove in three runs Tuesday, and he has four home runs and seven RBIs over his past seven games despite batting just .185 (5-for-27) in that span. Castro had a 4-for-5 performance with a homer and an RBI on July 24 against Kiwoom.

Samsung’s Lee Jae-hyeon also homered and drove in three runs Tuesday. The shortstop has four RBIs over his past two games and is hitting .308 (4-for-13) with two home runs in his last four contests. He leads a Samsung lineup that has scored 12 or more runs in two of its past five games.

Kia’s pitching staff has struggled, allowing eight or more runs in four of its past seven games. The Tigers have lost six of their last 10 contests. Samsung, meanwhile, has won eight of its last 12 and is coming off a series win at Doosan.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-4 Samsung victory, with the Lions holding a 62.3% win probability. Samsung continues its homestand Thursday against Kia before traveling to Lotte. Kia plays at Daegu again Thursday before a road series at NC.
