Samsung at Doosan
SEOUL (Interstat) — The Samsung Lions, boasting the best record in the Korea Baseball Organization, will face the Doosan Bears on Saturday evening at Jamsil Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. under cloudy skies with a temperature of 85 degrees.
Samsung (56-34-2) enters the game riding a lopsided 15-4 victory over Doosan on Friday, a win that pushed the Lions 22 games over .500. Doosan (47-43-2) has lost three of its past four games and sits four games over .500.
Right-hander Paddack Chris is expected to be a key figure for the Lions. In his most recent outing Friday against these same Bears, Paddack earned the win after allowing two earned runs on six hits over six innings with three strikeouts. He has been a consistent force in the Samsung rotation.
For the Bears, the focus will be on reliever Takada Takuto. Despite taking the loss in Friday’s 15-4 defeat, Takada tossed a scoreless inning with one strikeout. Over his past three appearances, he has allowed zero earned runs in three innings of work, striking out five. The Bears will likely rely on him out of the bullpen in high-leverage spots.
The head-to-head history this season heavily favors Samsung. The Lions have won three of the past four meetings, including Friday’s blowout. However, Doosan took two of three from Samsung from May 29-31, and the Bears won four of seven meetings earlier in the season. Overall, the series is tied 4-4-1 this year.
Samsung’s offense has been potent, as evidenced by Koo Ja-wook’s 3-for-4, three-RBI performance Friday. Doosan will look to designated hitter Yunior Severino, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the loss.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Samsung 6, Doosan 5. The ELO system gives the Lions a 58.1 percent probability to win.
Both teams play again Sunday at Jamsil in the series finale, then head to separate road trips. Samsung visits the Lotte Giants on Friday, July 31, while Doosan travels to face the Shinsegae Landers on Tuesday, July 28.
