GWANGJU, South Korea (Interstat) — The Hanwha Eagles visit the Kia Tigers on Tuesday evening at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field, with the first-place Tigers looking to maintain their edge over a stubborn Eagles club that has climbed back to .500. First pitch is scheduled under cloudy skies with temperatures around 82 degrees.

Hanwha (40-40-3) enters the three-game series riding a hot streak from right-hander Owen White, who has thrown 17 2-3 consecutive scoreless innings across three starts. White, who will be on the mound Tuesday, is 3-0 in that span, allowing only 14 hits while striking out 16. He last pitched July 9 against the NC Dinos, tossing five scoreless innings in a 6-4 win.

Kia (45-39-4) counters with veteran left-hander Yang Hyeon-jong, who has been steady if not dominant. Yang has won his last two outings, allowing one earned run over five innings in each. He last threw July 9 at Lotte Giants, earning a 5-2 victory. Yang has struck out just four batters over his last 15 innings.

The Tigers lead the season series 5-4, but the Eagles won the most recent meeting, a 5-1 decision June 11 in Daejeon. Hanwha also took two of three at Kia’s home park in early May, including an 11-8 slugfest.

Both teams return from a lengthy break. Hanwha’s last completed game was the July 9 win over NC, in which left fielder Oh Jae-won drove in three runs. Kia’s most recent game also came July 9, when designated hitter Harold Castro homered and left fielder Na Sung-bum added a two-run shot in the 5-2 win over Lotte.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-3 Hanwha win, though the ELO system gives Kia a 51.7 percent probability of victory.

The series continues Wednesday and Thursday in Gwangju before both clubs host weekend sets: Hanwha welcomes the LG Twins, while Kia faces the Kiwoom Heroes.
