Doosan at NC
CHANGWON, South Korea (Interstat) — The Doosan Bears and NC Dinos conclude their three-game series Saturday evening at Masan Baseball Stadium, with both teams looking to gain momentum in the KBO standings.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. under a forecast of 79 degrees and rain.
Doosan (44-41-2) enters the game riding a wave of strong pitching, having allowed two runs total over its last three games. The Bears blanked the Shinsegae Landers 7-0 on Thursday behind Zach Logue’s five-inning, five-hit, six-strikeout performance. Logue (7-5) has been inconsistent this season (Interstat) — he surrendered four earned runs in one inning at LG on June 21 (Interstat) — but posted a 1.04 ERA over his last two starts, striking out 10 and walking two.
Logue is expected to start Saturday, though the Bears have not confirmed their rotation beyond the current series.
NC (39-42-1) also relies on a left-hander, Koo Chang-mo (4-8), who takes the mound looking to rebound from a tough-luck loss at Hanwha on July 9. Koo allowed one earned run over five innings but took the loss as the Dinos fell 6-4. In his previous outing, Koo pitched six innings of three-run ball in a win at Kia, striking out three.
The Dinos have lost four of their last five games but remain within striking distance of a wild-card spot.
The series has been tightly contested. The first two games (Interstat) — Thursday and Friday (Interstat) — ended in scoreless ties, each suspended or canceled due to weather. Saturday’s forecast could again threaten play. The teams split the season series through six meetings, with Doosan winning two of three in May and NC taking the March opener 6-0 at this venue.
The Bears feature a balanced lineup. Kang Seung-ho homered and drove in two runs in Thursday’s win, and An Jae-seok also went deep. NC counters with Kim Hyung-jun, who homered and drove in two at Hanwha last week.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is NC 5, Doosan 4. The Dinos hold a 52.7 percent win probability via ELO projection.
Doosan looks to build on its recent success ahead of a three-game road series at KT Wiz beginning Tuesday. NC returns home Sunday for the series finale before traveling to LG.
