KT at LG

SEOUL, South Korea (Interstat) — The LG Twins host the KT Wiz in a key KBO clash Saturday evening at Jamsil Stadium, with first pitch set under a forecast of 83 degrees and rain.

The Twins (52-33-2) enter leading the league, while the Wiz (47-35-1) sit second in the standings. A win for LG would solidify their position atop the table; a win for KT would pull the visitors within 3 1/2 games.

LG will likely turn to right-hander Lachlan Wells. Wells has been inconsistent, posting a 2-2 record in four July starts. On July 9 against Samsung, he allowed two earned runs on five hits over five innings with five strikeouts in a 6-5 loss. His best outing came June 21, when he threw five scoreless innings against Doosan.

KT counter with reliever Lee Sang-dong, who has struggled with command. Over his last eight appearances, Sang-dong has a 6.75 ERA, surrendering 12 earned runs in 16 innings. He was effective July 8 against Kiwoom, pitching 1 1/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts in a 7-3 win, but he allowed five hits and six earned runs in just one-third of an inning June 26 at Samsung.

The teams split their season series, with the Wiz taking five of 10 meetings entering this weekend. The last two games — Thursday and Friday — were postponed, likely due to rain, leaving the series tied 0-0. In the most recent completed series in early June, the clubs split two games at KT’s home park, with LG winning 7-5 on June 4 after KT took a 7-6 decision on June 3.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-3 win for LG, with the ELO system giving the Twins a 59.7% probability of victory.

After Saturday, both teams have a Sunday matinee before facing new opponents Tuesday. The Twins host NC Dinos, while the Wiz travel to face the Doosan Bears.
