Doosan at NC

CHANGWON, South Korea (Interstat) — The Doosan Bears visit the NC Dinos on Friday evening at Masan Baseball Stadium, with first pitch set for 7 p.m. under cloudy skies and 86-degree heat.

Doosan (44-41-2) holds a slim edge over NC (39-42-1) in the Korea Baseball Organization standings. The Bears have won four of their last five games, including a 7-0 shutout of the Shinsegae Landers on Thursday. Right-hander Zach Logue, who tossed five scoreless innings in that victory, is scheduled to start for Doosan. Logue is 2-2 with a 3.38 ERA over his last four outings, striking out 13 in 18 ¹/₃ innings. He allowed two earned runs in a loss to Kiwoom on July 3 but rebounded with seven strong innings of one-run ball against Kia on June 27.

NC counters with left-hander Koo Chang-mo, who took a tough-luck loss Thursday at Hanwha despite allowing one earned run over five innings. Koo is 1-2 with a 2.65 ERA in his last three starts, striking out 15 in 17 innings. He held Kiwoom to one run over six frames on June 27.

The clubs are coming off a scoreless tie in Thursday’s series opener – a 0-0 draw after nine innings. Doosan took the previous meeting this season, a 1-0 decision on May 21 in Seoul. In their last matchup at Masan, the Bears rallied for a 9-6 win on March 29, but the Dinos had taken the prior game 6-0 on March 28.

NC’s bats have been inconsistent, averaging 4.2 runs over the last 10 games. The Dinos are 4-6 in that stretch. Doosan’s offense has been steadier, scoring seven or more runs in four of the last five contests. First baseman Kang Seung-ho homered and drove in two runs Thursday, and third baseman An Jae-seok also went deep.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 win for NC, and the ELO system gives the Dinos a 52.7 percent probability of victory.

The series continues Saturday and Sunday before both teams hit the road. Doosan travels to face KT Wiz on Tuesday, while NC visits LG Twins.
