Shinsegae at Doosan
SEOUL (Interstat) — The Doosan Bears host the Shinsegae Landers on Thursday evening at Jamsil Stadium, with first pitch scheduled under rainy skies. The forecast calls for 77-degree temperatures and rain at game time.
Doosan (43-41-2) enters the game in third place in the KBO standings, riding a split of the first two games of this three-game series. The Bears won 7-3 on Wednesday behind a dominant outing from right-hander Gwak Been, who allowed one run on two hits over seven innings with seven strikeouts.
Gwak Been has been the Bears’ most reliable starter. Over his last four appearances, all Bears victories, the right-hander has posted a 0.86 ERA, allowing just two earned runs in 24 innings while striking out 24. He threw six scoreless innings against Lotte on July 2 and against Kia on June 26.
Shinsegae (31-51-3) remains in last place in the league, having lost nine of its last 10 games. The Landers will rely on reliever Park Si-hoo, who has worked scoreless outings in his last two appearances, including 1 1/3 hitless innings Wednesday against Doosan. Over his past eight outings, Park has a 2.77 ERA with 12 strikeouts in 13 innings, though the Landers lost all eight games.
The season series is close. Doosan leads 5-3, but the teams have split the first two games of this week’s set. Shinsegae won 4-2 on Tuesday.
Offensively, Doosan catcher Yun Jun-ho went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs on Wednesday. Second baseman Park Jun-soon added a homer and an RBI.
Shinsegae right fielder Choi Jun-woo hit a two-run homer Wednesday.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-1 Doosan victory, with the ELO system giving the Bears a 60.1 percent win probability.
After Thursday, both teams have a scheduled off day before starting a four-game series Friday. Shinsegae hosts Kia, while Doosan visits NC.
