Kiwoom at KT
SUWON, South Korea (Interstat) — The KT Wiz aim to extend their recent mastery over the Kiwoom Heroes when the teams meet Tuesday evening at Suwon Baseball Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. under a forecast of rain and 80 degrees.
KT enters with a 45-35 record, solidly in contention. The Wiz have won seven of the last nine meetings between the clubs, including a three-game sweep in late May where they outscored the Heroes 20-9.
Kiwoom, last in the league at 29-55-1, is coming off a 8-1 loss to Doosan on Sunday.
The projected starting pitchers offer a contrast in fortune. Right-hander Matthew Sauer (7-4) takes the mound for KT. In his last outing July 5, Sauer allowed two earned runs over six innings in a 4-2 win over Lotte. Over his past four starts, he has a 2.74 ERA with 10 strikeouts and has worked at least five innings each time.
Kiwoom will counter with reliever Park Jeong-hun. The right-hander has been erratic, tossing a scoreless inning Sunday but also allowing two earned runs in one inning two days earlier against Doosan. Over his last 10 appearances dating to June 11, Park has a 4.70 ERA.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 3-2 KT win, and its ELO system gives the Wiz a 70.9 percent probability of victory.
KT is expected to rely on a lineup that produced a pair of home runs in Sunday’s win, including a solo shot from center fielder Sam Hilliard. First baseman Kim Hyun-soo also went deep.
The Heroes, meanwhile, have lost five of their past six. Tuesday kicks off a six-game road trip for Kiwoom, starting with three games in Suwon.
The two teams meet again Wednesday and Thursday to complete the series.
