Han Dong-hui homers twice as Lotte blanks KT Wiz 4‑0

SUWON, South Korea (Interstat) — Han Dong-hui homered twice and drove in four runs, and Kim Jin-uk pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings as the Lotte Giants blanked the KT Wiz 4-0 on Friday evening at Suwon Baseball Stadium.

The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when Han connected for the first of his two home runs. With one out, Jo-jo Reyes singled to right field before Han drove a pitch over the center-field fence, giving Lotte a 2-0 lead. The Giants added two more runs in the eighth inning when Han struck again, this time a two-run homer to right field that scored Hwang Seong-bin, who had reached on an infield single.

Kim Jin-uk earned the win after allowing five hits and striking out seven while walking none. He departed with one out in the seventh inning after throwing 82 pitches. Choi Jun-yong recorded two outs to finish the seventh, then Iimura Shota pitched the eighth and Kim Won-jung the ninth, each working a scoreless frame to complete the four-hit shutout.

KT starter Allen took the loss despite a solid performance, allowing two runs on six hits over seven innings. He struck out five and walked two. The Wiz bullpen struggled, as Lee Sang-dong allowed one run on one hit in one-third of an inning and Jeon Yong-ju gave up one run on two hits in two-thirds of an inning. Woo Kyu-min pitched a scoreless eighth with one strikeout.

Lotte’s offense managed nine hits, with Reyes going 2-for-4 and scoring once. Hwang Seong-bin singled twice and scored a run. The Giants left seven runners on base and struck out three times.

KT had five hits and left six runners on base. Kim Min-jun Sang-su singled and walked, and Jang Jin-hyuk singled. The Wiz struck out seven times and grounded into one double play.

The most important sequence of the game occurred in the top of the fourth inning. After Reyes singled, Han stepped to the plate with one out and launched a two-run homer, breaking a scoreless tie and giving Lotte the only runs they would need. The Giants added two more runs in the eighth on Han’s second homer, providing an insurance cushion that ensured the shutout.

Han entered the game with modest recent numbers, having gone 1-for-3 on July 2, 2-for-5 with an RBI on July 1, 1-for-4 on June 30 and 2-for-4 on June 28. His two-homer performance Friday marked his first multi-homer game of the season.

The Giants improved to 35-43-2 with the victory, while the Wiz dropped to 44-34-2. Lotte snapped a two-game losing streak after falling to Doosan 8-3 on Thursday and 5-0 on Tuesday, with a 5-2, 10-inning win over the Bears on Wednesday sandwiched between those losses. KT came into the game having lost two of its last three, including a 14-3 defeat at Hanwha on Thursday and a 7-4 win over the Eagles on Wednesday.

Attendance was announced at 18,700 for the evening contest.
