Kia Tigers rout Shinsegae Landers 10‑3 behind Kim Do-yeong’s two homers

GWANGJU (Interstat) — Kim Do-yeong homered twice and drove in three runs as the Kia Tigers defeated the Shinsegae Landers 10-3 on Tuesday evening at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field.

Kim Do-yeong went 3 for 5, lifting his season totals and providing the offensive spark for a Tigers lineup that pounded out 17 hits. He connected for a solo homer in the first inning and added another solo shot in the fourth, part of a balanced attack that saw six different Kia players collect at least two hits.

The Tigers broke the game open in the third inning with a five-run outburst. Park Jae-hyun tripled to right-center to start the rally, and Kim Do-yeong followed with an RBI single. Na Sung-bum walked, and Harold Castro singled to drive in Kim Do-yeong. After Kim Sun-bin walked, Byun Woo-hyuk cleared the bases with a two-run single, giving Kia a 5-0 lead.

Adam Oller earned the win, pitching six innings and allowing five hits while striking out 10. He did not surrender an earned run. Oller retired the side in order in the first and second innings and worked around scattered baserunners, striking out two in the third and two more in the fifth. He finished his outing by striking out two in the sixth.

Shinsegae’s only runs came in the fifth inning. Jeong Jun-jae singled, stole second, and scored on a two-run homer by Choi Jeong. Kim Jae-hwan then followed with a solo homer to right field, cutting the deficit to 6-3. But the Landers managed only five hits in the game, and Oller’s dominant start kept them from building any sustained momentum.

Kia answered immediately in the bottom of the fifth. Han Jun-su singled, advanced on a hit-by-pitch, and scored on a fielder’s choice groundout by Park Jae-hyun. The Tigers added another run in the sixth when Harold Castro advanced on a passed ball and scored on a single by Kim Sun-bin.

Choi Jeong finished 1 for 3 with the two-run homer and two RBIs for Shinsegae. Kim Jae-hwan went 1 for 2 with a solo home run.

Shinsegae relievers Seo Jin-yong, Jeon Young-jun and Park Si-hoo combined for 4 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing seven hits while striking out three, but the Landers offense could not generate additional runs against the Kia bullpen. Choi Ji-min, Kim Beom-su and Han Jae-seung each pitched a scoreless inning to close the game for the Tigers.

The loss extended a difficult stretch for Shinsegae, which has lost four straight and 10 of its last 12. The Landers fell to 30-46-2. Kia improved to 43-35-1 and has won five of its last six.

The same teams meet Wednesday for the second game of the series. Shinsegae then returns home to host Samsung for a three-game weekend set, while Kia welcomes NC Dinos for a three-game series at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field.

Kim Do-yeong’s performance continues a productive week. He went 2 for 4 with a homer and an RBI in a 12-1 win at Doosan on June 28, and he was 3 for 4 with two homers and four RBIs in a 9-4 win at Kiwoom on June 25.

The Tigers have now won four of their last five meetings against Shinsegae dating to May 22, when they swept a three-game series in Gwangju. The Landers have dropped seven of their past eight games overall, including a 6-3 loss to Hanwha on June 28.

Park Jae-hyun also contributed a triple and a single for Kia, scoring twice. Harold Castro had three hits and drove in a run. Byun Woo-hyuk had two hits and two RBIs.

Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of Kia Tigers 5, Shinsegae Landers 2. Interstat’s ELO system gave Kia a 62.30 percent probability to win. Kia had been installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of minus 1.5.
