SEOUL (Interstat) — The first-place KT Wiz aim to extend their recent dominance over the Doosan Bears when the teams meet Wednesday evening at Jamsil Stadium.
KT (39-25-1) enters on a four-game winning streak in the head-to-head series, including Tuesday’s 6-2 victory in the opener of this three-game set. The Wiz have won five of the last six meetings overall.
Right-hander Ko Young-pyo is scheduled to start for KT. He has been nearly untouchable this season, winning his last five decisions. In his most recent outing Tuesday against these same Bears, Ko earned the win with six innings of work, allowing nine hits and two earned runs while striking out three. In two starts versus Doosan this year (Interstat) — both wins (Interstat) — he has posted a 3.00 ERA over 12 innings. Over his last five starts overall, Ko has a 2.90 ERA with 27 strikeouts across 31 innings.
Doosan (33-32-2) counters with right-hander Park Shin-zi, who has struggled to find consistency. In Tuesday’s loss, Park worked two innings in relief, allowing two hits and no runs with one strikeout. He has made three appearances over the last two weeks (Interstat) — two losses and a tie (Interstat) — and has yet to record a win in that span.
The Bears will look to snap a two-game skid and reverse a worrying trend at home: Doosan is 2-4 in its last six games at Jamsil. The Bears dropped Tuesday’s series opener despite holding KT to two runs through the first five innings. The Wiz broke through with a four-run sixth, highlighted by Sam Hilliard’s two-run home run.
The season series is lopsided in favor of KT. The Wiz outscored Doosan 17-3 in a three-game sweep in late May and have not lost to the Bears since April 12. Doosan’s last win came on April 10 in an 11-inning, 8-7 thriller.
The Interstat game simulator projects a 6-5 final score in favor of KT, and the ELO model gives the Wiz a 53 percent probability to win.
KT will conclude the three-game series Thursday before returning home to host the Kia Tigers. Doosan will travel to face the LG Twins after Thursday’s finale.
