Doosan at Lotte

BUSAN, South Korea (Interstat) — The Doosan Bears visit the Lotte Giants on Wednesday evening at Busan Sajik Baseball Stadium, with first pitch scheduled under cloudy skies and a temperature of 66 degrees.

Doosan (30-29-2) enters the game after a 6-5 victory over Lotte on Tuesday, its fourth win in its last five games. The Bears have won six of their last eight overall, including a three-game sweep of the Hanwha Eagles from June 2-4. Doosan has outscored opponents 42-31 during its recent hot stretch.

Lotte (22-36-1) has lost seven of its last eight, including a four-game sweep at the hands of Hanwha from June 5-7. The Giants dropped the series opener Tuesday and have the worst record in the Korea Baseball Organization. Their lone win in the past eight was an 8-3 victory at Kia on June 3.

Catcher Yang Eui-ji is a player to watch for the Bears. He went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs in Tuesday’s victory, his third multi-hit performance in his past four games. Over his past 10 games, Yang has three home runs and six RBIs, batting .360 (9-for-25) with five walks.

Right-handed reliever Hyun Do-hoon is a key figure for Lotte. He threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings in Tuesday’s loss, allowing no hits. Across his past four outings, Hyun has surrendered only one earned run over 4 2/3 innings, striking out three and walking none.

The teams have split the season series 2-2 since April 21, with Doosan winning 6-2 on April 21, 9-1 on April 22, and Lotte rebounding for a 6-1 victory on April 23. The Bears took two of three in Seoul from May 15-17, winning 8-4 and 10-9 in 11 innings before dropping the opener 6-5. Tuesday’s game was the first of a four-game set in Busan.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-2 Doosan victory, with its ELO system giving the Bears a 53.6 percent win probability.

Following Wednesday’s game, the teams meet again Thursday at Busan Sajik. Doosan then travels to Kia for a three-game weekend series, while Lotte heads to Seoul to face LG. The Bears return home June 16 to host KT Wiz for three games, followed by a road trip to LG. The Giants face Shinsegae Landers on the road June 16-18, then travel to Kiwoom for a weekend series.
