Kiwoom at Doosan
SEOUL, South Korea (Interstat) — The Doosan Bears host the Kiwoom Heroes on Friday evening at Jamsil Stadium, looking to build momentum against a struggling opponent. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. under partly cloudy skies with a temperature of 73 degrees.
Doosan (27-28-1) enters the game having won three of its last four contests, including a 3-1 victory Thursday against the Hanwha Eagles. The Bears sit just above .500 but have been inconsistent, splitting their last 10 games. Kiwoom (21-36-1) arrives on a three-game losing streak, most recently falling 7-6 at Shinsegae on Thursday.
The pitching matchup features two players coming off strong outings. Left-hander Zach Logue will start for the Bears. Logue (4-0, 3.37 ERA in his past four decisions) threw 4 scoreless innings Thursday against Hanwha, allowing two hits with three strikeouts. He has surrendered 10 runs over his last two starts but has held opponents to one earned run or fewer in three of his past four appearances.
Park Jeong-hun expects to work in relief for the Heroes. The right-hander tossed 2 scoreless innings Thursday at Shinsegae, allowing one hit and striking out three. He has been effective in two of his last three outings but was tagged for five runs May 30 against KT Wiz.
The teams have met five times this season. Doosan holds a 3-2 edge in the series, winning the most recent matchup 14-3 on May 3. The Bears have outscored the Heroes 42-20 over the last three meetings. At Jamsil, Doosan won the lone game between the clubs April 8, a 7-3 victory.
Kiwoom has lost eight of its last 10 games overall. The Heroes rank near the bottom of the league in runs scored. In Thursday’s loss, Kim Woong-bin homered and drove in a run, going 2 for 4. Kim Seo-jun tossed a scoreless inning.
Doosan’s offense has been more productive, averaging 5.3 runs over its last three wins. The Bears’ bullpen has been effective, with Lee Yong-chan and Choi Jun-ho combining for 2 2/3 scoreless innings Thursday.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Doosan 3, Kiwoom 1. The ELO system gives the Bears a 65.1 percent probability to win.
The teams continue the three-game series Saturday and Sunday before Doosan travels to face the Lotte Giants on Tuesday. Kiwoom returns home to host the NC Dinos on Tuesday.
