Lotte at Kia
GWANGJU, South Korea (Interstat) — The Kia Tigers look to rebound against the Lotte Giants on Thursday night at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field in the third game of a four-game set.
The Tigers (29-26-1) and Giants (22-31-1) split the first two games, with Lotte winning 8-3 on Wednesday behind a strong start from right-hander Kim Jin-uk. Kia took the opener 5-4 on Tuesday.
Kim Jin-uk is a player to watch for the visiting Giants. He threw six innings Wednesday, allowing three earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts to earn the win. Over his last five starts, Kim is 3-2 with a 4.32 ERA, including a loss to these same Tigers on May 9 when he allowed two earned runs over 7 1/3 innings.
For the home team, right-handed reliever Lee Hyeong-beom has been effective out of the Kia bullpen. Lee tossed two scoreless innings Wednesday, allowing no hits with one strikeout. He has not allowed an earned run in seven of his last nine appearances dating to May 7.
The Tigers won the season series opener in April, taking two of three at home. Kia leads the season series 5-2-1.
Thursday’s forecast calls for rain and 74 degrees at first pitch.
Kia holds a five-game edge over Lotte in the standings. The Tigers are coming off a split of a six-game road trip. The Giants dropped three of four in a weekend series at NC Dinos before winning Wednesday.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-2 Kia victory, giving the Tigers a 60.8% probability to win. Right-handers are expected to start for both clubs, with lineups to be announced before the 6:30 p.m. local time first pitch.
The game will be Lotte’s final contest before returning home to face the Hanwha Eagles on Friday. Kia opens a weekend series against the Samsung Lions.
