LG at KT

SUWON, South Korea (Interstat) — The LG Twins and KT Wiz meet Thursday evening at Suwon Baseball Stadium in a pivotal midweek series finale, with first place in the KBO standings on the line.

LG enters the game at 34-21-1, while the Wiz sit a half-game back at 33-21. The three-game set is tied 1-1 after KT rallied for a 7-6 victory Wednesday. Thursday’s forecast calls for 77 degrees and clouds.

LG outfielder Lee Jae-won is a player to watch. He went 1-for-1 with a home run and two RBIs in Wednesday’s loss and has been productive in limited at-bats, going 5-for-15 with two homers over his last 11 games. He will face a KT pitching staff led by Ko Young-pyo, who is coming off a strong start. Ko threw seven innings Wednesday, allowing six hits and two earned runs while striking out eight. Over his past three starts, he has posted a 2.84 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 19 innings.

The Twins counter with a lineup that averages 5.4 runs per game this season, powered by designated hitter Austin Dean, who homered and drove in two runs Wednesday. LG’s bullpen has been sturdy, allowing two earned runs or fewer in eight of its past 10 games.

KT’s offense is opportunistic, having won four of its past five games by a single run. Choi Won-jun went 4-for-4 Wednesday, and Kim Min-hyuck added two hits and two RBIs. The Wiz have taken four of the seven meetings between the teams this season, with all but one decided by two runs or fewer.

An Interstat game simulator projects a 7-6 LG victory, and the ELO system gives the Twins a 53.9 percent probability of winning.

After Thursday’s game, LG heads to NC Dinos for a three-game road series, while KT travels to face the Shinsegae Landers.
