Lotte at Kia

GWANGJU, South Korea (Interstat) — The Kia Tigers host the Lotte Giants on Tuesday evening at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field, with first pitch scheduled under a forecast of 76 degrees and rain.

Kia (28-25-1) enters the series opener with a 61.3 percent win probability, according to Interstat’s ELO system, which projects a 5-3 victory for the Tigers. Lotte (21-30-1) looks to snap a two-game skid after losing 8-2 at NC on Sunday.

Kia left-hander Yang Hyeon-jong is a pitcher to watch. The veteran has posted a 4.2-inning, three-earned-run outing in his most recent start May 31 at LG, and earned wins in two of his previous three starts, including a five-inning, two-earned-run performance against Doosan on May 13.

Lotte will counter with reliever Park Joon-woo, who has been effective in limited duty. He tossed two scoreless innings with two strikeouts on Sunday against NC, and has allowed no earned runs in four of his past six appearances dating to May 14.

The teams split their season series through six meetings. Lotte won the most recent matchup 7-3 on May 10, but Kia has taken four of the six games overall, including a three-game sweep in Gwangju from April 24-26 with a tie (5-5, 11 innings) on April 26.

Both clubs have struggled recently. The Giants have lost seven of their past 10, including defeats in the first two games of their series at NC. The Tigers have dropped three straight after being swept in a two-game set at LG over the weekend.

Tuesday’s game is the first of a three-game series between the teams, followed by matchups Wednesday and Thursday. Lotte then returns home for a three-game set against Hanwha, while Kia hosts Samsung for three games beginning Friday.
