Hanwha at Doosan
SEOUL (Interstat) — The Hanwha Eagles, winners of three straight against the Doosan Bears earlier this month, visit Jamsil Stadium on Tuesday evening in a KBO clash with the slumping Bears.
Hanwha (27-25) takes a 2½-game lead over Doosan (25-28) into the 6:30 p.m. local time contest. The forecast calls for 77 degrees Fahrenheit with clouds.
Right-hander Wilkel Hernandez, coming off his second win of the season, is a key player for the Eagles. Hernandez (2-2, 3.79 ERA) tossed six innings of four-hit ball, allowing two earned runs and striking out five in a 6-2 victory Sunday against the Shinsegae Landers. In his previous start, a 4-6 loss to Lotte on May 19, he went 5⅓ innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts. On May 13 at Kiwoom, he lasted only 3⅔ innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits but striking out six in a 2-3 loss.
For the Bears, reliever Lee Yong‑chan has been effective in limited recent work. Lee pitched 1⅓ scoreless innings Sunday in a 9-4 loss to Samsung, allowing no hits. In his prior two outings, he worked one inning each: a 9-7 win May 29 at Samsung (one hit, one earned run, two strikeouts) and a 0-6 loss May 26 vs. KT Wiz (one hit, one earned run, one strikeout).
The teams met last week in Hanwha, where the Eagles swept a three-game series May 22-24, winning each game 5-2. Earlier this season, at Jamsil on April 3-5, Hanwha took two of three, including an 11-6 win and a 9-3 victory, while Doosan won 8-0 on April 5.
Hanwha enters on a three-game win streak overall after Sunday’s victory over Shinsegae. The Eagles have won seven of their last 10, including a 13-10 slugfest Saturday and a 4-3 win Friday. Third baseman Roh Si-hwan drove in three runs Sunday, going 3 for 4.
Doosan has lost three of its last four, including an 8-7 win Saturday and a pair of 9-7 victories Friday before Sunday’s loss. The Bears have struggled against Hanwha, losing five of six meetings this season.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-3 Hanwha victory, and the ELO system gives the Eagles a 53.9% chance to win.
The teams conclude the three-game series Wednesday and Thursday before Hanwha travels to Lotte and Doosan hosts Kiwoom.
