Doosan at Samsung
DAEGU, South Korea (Interstat) — The Samsung Lions host the Doosan Bears on Saturday afternoon at Daegu Samsung Lions Park, with first place in the KBO on the line. First pitch is set for 84 degrees and cloudy.
Samsung (30-19-1) leads the league standings and enters the game after dropping the series opener 9-7 to the Bears on Friday. Doosan (24-27-1) snapped a three-game losing streak with that victory and looks to equalize the series before Sunday’s finale.
Bears infielder Kang Seung-ho was the catalyst in Friday’s win, going 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBIs. Over his last 10 games, Kang has three multi-hit performances, including a 3-for-4 day with a homer and an RBI against Lotte on May 17, and a 2-for-3 outing against NC on May 21. He has also endured four hitless games in that span, including an 0-for-2 in a loss to KT on May 28.
Lions right-hander Won Tae-in opposed him Friday and allowed three earned runs over six innings, striking out five. In his four starts this month, Won has a 3.24 ERA over 25 innings with 22 strikeouts. He logged a seven-inning shutout against Kiwoom on May 7, allowing just three hits and no runs while striking out six.
The teams have split their season series so far. Samsung won four of the first six meetings, including a three-game sweep in Daegu from March 31-April 2. The Bears’ 9-7 win Friday was their second straight against the Lions following an 8-5 victory on April 30.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-4 Samsung victory and gives the Lions a 62.9 percent chance to win, according to its ELO system.
Doosan’s next 10 games include a rematch against Samsung on Sunday, followed by a three-game home set against Hanwha starting Tuesday. Samsung hosts the Bears again Sunday before welcoming NC Dinos for a three-game series beginning Tuesday.
