Kia at Kiwoom
SEOUL, South Korea (Interstat) — The Kia Tigers visit the Kiwoom Heroes on Thursday evening at Gocheok Sky Dome, seeking to extend their dominance in the season series against the struggling home club.
Kia (27-22-1) has won five straight meetings with Kiwoom (20-30-1), including a 9-2 victory Wednesday. The Tigers have taken seven of eight games overall and have won four consecutive contests.
Right-hander James Naile (3-2) is scheduled to start for Kia. Naile earned the win in Wednesday’s series opener against these same Heroes, working seven innings while allowing one earned run on six hits with eight strikeouts. In four of his past five starts, Naile has surrendered one earned run or fewer, though he was tagged for five earned runs in a loss to LG on May 21.
Kiwoom counters with right-hander Raul Alcántara (2-1). Alcántara took the loss Wednesday, giving up five earned runs over 7 1/3 innings with eight strikeouts. That performance interrupted a stretch of two dominant outings: He threw eight scoreless innings against Shinsegae on May 21 and allowed one earned run over seven frames against NC on May 15.
Kia’s offense has been productive in this series. Outfielder Na Sung-bum went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs in Wednesday’s win, while Park Jae-hyun also homered and drove in a run. Catcher Kim Gun-hee led the Heroes’ effort with a 2-for-4 day.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-4 Kia victory, and its ELO system gives the Tigers a 63.30 percent chance to win.
The teams conclude the three-game set Thursday before Kia travels to face LG on Friday. Kiwoom opens a three-game home series against KT Wiz on Friday.
