Kia at Kiwoom

SEOUL, South Korea (Interstat) — The Kia Tigers look to extend their dominance over the Kiwoom Heroes when the clubs meet Wednesday evening at Gocheok Sky Dome.

Kia (26-22-1) has won four consecutive games against Kiwoom (20-29-1), including a 5-2 victory Tuesday in the opener of this series. The Tigers also swept a three-game set in April in Gwangju.

Right-hander Kim Tae-hyeong is expected to start for Kia. The 25-year-old is coming off a dominant performance Tuesday against these same Heroes, firing six shutout innings, allowing no hits and striking out six while walking none. Over his past two appearances, Kim has worked 10.1 innings without allowing an earned run, scattering two hits and striking out eight. On the season, he has been sharp in May, posting a 1.88 ERA over his last five outings, though he did allow three earned runs in 1.2 innings in a loss to Lotte on May 10.

For Kiwoom, right-hander An Woo-jin gets the ball. An took a no-decision Tuesday despite a strong outing, allowing just one hit and no earned runs over four innings, striking out four. He has shown flashes of dominance, fanning eight over four scoreless innings against KT Wiz on May 8, but has been inconsistent, posting a 4.50 ERA over his last three starts. An has yet to earn a victory in May, with his last win coming May 2 against Doosan.

The Tigers have been surging, winning four of their last five games overall. Kia’s offense has been productive, scoring at least five runs in seven of its last 10 contests. Kim Do-yeong drove in three runs in Tuesday’s win.

Kiwoom, by contrast, has lost three of its last four, with its only victory in that span a 7-0 shutout of the LG Twins on May 22. The Heroes’ pitching staff has been inconsistent, allowing at least five runs in three of their last six defeats.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-4 Tigers victory, while the ELO system gives Kia a 62.5% probability of winning.

The series continues with another game Thursday at Gocheok Sky Dome. Kia then heads to Jamsil for three games against the LG Twins, while Kiwoom hosts the KT Wiz for a weekend set.
