Doosan at Hanwha
DAEJEON, South Korea (Interstat) — The Doosan Bears and Hanwha Eagles, both holding identical 22-24-1 records, meet Sunday afternoon at Daejeon Hanbat Baseball Stadium in a pivotal Korea Baseball Organization matchup.
The game is set for a 2 p.m. first pitch under cloudy skies with a temperature of 75 degrees.
Hanwha enters with momentum after winning the first two games of this three-game series, including a 5-2 victory Saturday. The Eagles have taken five of the last six meetings dating to April, though Doosan snapped a four-game losing streak with an 8-0 win on April 5.
Right-hander Zach Logue (3-4) will start for Doosan. He lasted five innings in Saturday’s loss to Hanwha, allowing two earned runs on eight hits while striking out nine. In his last five starts, Logue has a 3.10 ERA with 30 strikeouts over 29 innings. He has been sharp at times — tossing six shutout innings against Samsung on April 29 — but has also been prone to giving up hits, allowing 10 in a win over Lotte on May 16.
Hanwha counters with right-hander Owen White (5-1). White earned the win Saturday opposite Logue, throwing five innings of one-run ball, scattering five hits and striking out three. He has been even better in his last two outings, allowing just two earned runs over 11 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts. White has not lost since April 12.
Both teams are jockeying for position in the middle of the KBO standings. Doosan has won three of its last five, while Hanwha has won four of six.
Offensively, Hanwha shortstop Shim Woo-jun went 3-for-3 with two RBIs in Saturday’s win. Doosan will look to rebound after managing only two runs in each of the past two games.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Hanwha 5, Doosan 4, with the Eagles holding a 57.8 percent probability of winning based on ELO ratings.
Following Sunday’s game, Doosan returns home for a three-game series against KT Wiz starting Tuesday, then travels to Samsung. Hanwha heads to NC for a three-game set beginning Tuesday.
First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. local time.
