Doosan at Hanwha
DAEJEON, South Korea (Interstat) — The Doosan Bears visit the Hanwha Eagles on Friday evening at Daejeon Hanbat Baseball Stadium, with first pitch scheduled under rainy skies and a temperature of 64 degrees.
Doosan (22-22-1) arrives having won its past two games, including a 1-0 shutout of the NC Dinos on Thursday. The Bears will look to left-hander Wes Benjamin, who threw eight scoreless innings in that victory, allowing five hits and striking out one. Benjamin has been inconsistent this season, posting a 2-2 record in his past five starts with a 3.63 ERA over 29 2/3 innings, but he enters with momentum after his most dominant outing.
Hanwha (20-24-1) is coming off an 8-2 loss to the Lotte Giants on Thursday. The Eagles will rely on reliever Kim Jong-soo, who tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings in that defeat. Kim has pitched to a 4.91 ERA over 5 1/3 innings in his past seven appearances, with the Eagles losing four of those games. He has not allowed an earned run in his past two outings.
The series has not been kind to Doosan recently. The Eagles swept a three-game set in Seoul in early April, outscoring the Bears 20-17, including an 11-6 win on April 3 and a 9-3 victory on April 4. However, the Bears shut out Hanwha 8-0 in the series finale on April 5.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 Hanwha victory, and the ELO system gives the Eagles a 56.7 percent probability to win. Despite that, oddsmakers have installed Doosan as a 1.5-run favorite, with the over/under set at 10 runs.
These teams will meet again Saturday and Sunday to conclude the three-game series before heading to separate opponents next week.
