Kia at Samsung
DAEGU, South Korea (Interstat) — The Samsung Lions host the Kia Tigers on Sunday afternoon at Daegu Samsung Lions Park, with first pitch scheduled under clear skies and 87-degree heat.
Samsung (24-16-1) enters the game in strong form, holding a one-game lead atop the KBO standings. The Lions are coming off a 5-2 victory over Kia on Saturday, evening the weekend series at one game apiece after the Tigers won 5-4 on Friday.
Kia (20-21-1) sits in sixth place but has shown resilience in the series. The Tigers have alternated wins and losses over their past five games.
Left-hander Lee Eui-lee is scheduled to start for Kia. Lee has struggled recently, allowing three earned runs in 5⅓ innings in Saturday’s loss to Samsung. Over his past five outings, he has a 7.89 ERA, surrendering 20 earned runs in 19⅔ innings. His season has been erratic, with two wins and three losses in that span.
Samsung counters with lefty Jack O’Loughlin, who has been dominant. O’Loughlin earned the win Saturday against Kia, allowing two earned runs on four hits over six innings with five strikeouts. He has won his past three decisions, posting a 1.00 ERA over 18 innings in that stretch with 18 strikeouts against only four walks.
The Lions’ offense has been productive in the series, scoring five runs in each of the two games. Shortstop Lee Jae-hyeon homered and drove in two runs Saturday. For Kia, right fielder Park Jae-hyun homered and drove in two in the Friday win.
Samsung took two of three meetings in the previous series in April, winning 10-3 and 5-2 after dropping the opener 15-5.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-5 Samsung victory. The ELO system gives the Lions a 59.4 percent probability to win.
Following Sunday’s game, Kia returns home for a three-game series against LG starting Tuesday. Samsung hosts KT in a three-game set beginning Tuesday.
