Doosan at Kia

GWANGJU, South Korea (Interstat) — The Doosan Bears and Kia Tigers, two teams separated by the slimmest of margins in the early season standings, meet Tuesday evening at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field.

First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. under partly cloudy skies with the temperature at 68 degrees.

Doosan (17-19-1) and Kia (17-19-2) enter with identical win-loss marks, though the Tigers hold one additional tie. The Bears took two of three from Kia in their most recent series April 17-19 in Seoul, winning 6-3 on Sunday and 5-4 in 10 innings on Saturday before dropping the opener 7-3.

Left-hander Zach Logue (2-3, 3.33 ERA) is scheduled to start for Doosan. He is coming off a sharp outing Sunday, allowing one earned run on six hits over 6 1/3 innings in a 3-1 victory against the Shinsegae Landers. Logue struck out five and walked one. In his lone start against Kia this season, on April 17, he took the loss despite pitching seven innings, surrendering five earned runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts. Over his past three starts, Logue has a 1.50 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 18 innings.

For Kia, reliever Choi Ji-min (0-0, 5.02 ERA) could be a key factor out of the bullpen. He tossed two scoreless innings Sunday in a 7-3 loss at Lotte, allowing one hit. Choi has been effective of late, allowing one earned run over his last nine appearances covering 8 1/3 innings. His command remains solid; he has issued only two walks in that stretch.

The Bears are riding momentum from Sunday’s win, which completed a series victory over Shinsegae. Doosan’s bullpen was sharp, with Lee Young-ha and Lee Byeong-heon combining for 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of Logue.

Kia dropped its series finale Sunday in Busan, managing just three runs on six hits. The Tigers have lost four of their last five games and are 5-6 in May.

The Interstat game simulator projects a 4-3 Doosan victory, though the ELO system gives Kia a 55.2 percent probability to win.

The clubs continue their three-game set Wednesday and Thursday before heading into weekend series — Doosan hosts Lotte, while Kia visits Samsung.
