KT at Kiwoom

SEOUL, South Korea (Interstat) — The first-place KT Wiz visit the last-place Kiwoom Heroes on Friday evening at Gocheok Sky Dome, with a 5-3 projected win for the Wiz, according to Interstat’s game simulator.

KT (22-11) enters the game riding a strong start to the season, while Kiwoom (12-22) looks to snap a four-game losing streak. The teams last met April 17-19, with the Wiz taking two of three games in Suwon, outscoring the Heroes 10-5 over the series. In that set, KT won 5-0 and 4-2 before Kiwoom salvaged a 3-1 victory in the finale.

Both teams are coming off lopsided losses. KT fell 8-1 to the Lotte Giants on Wednesday at home, managing only one run on six hits. Right-hander Kim Jeong-woon, a player to watch for the Wiz, tossed two scoreless innings of relief in that game, allowing one hit and striking out one. The 24-year-old has not allowed an earned run in his past two appearances, spanning four innings.

Kiwoom was shut out 6-0 at the Samsung Lions on Thursday, managing just three hits. Right-hander Kim Seo-jun, the player to watch for the Heroes, also delivered two scoreless innings of relief Thursday, allowing one hit and striking out three. The 22-year-old has a 1.80 ERA over his past two outings, covering four innings with five strikeouts.

Interstat’s ELO system gives KT a 66.70 percent probability to win.

The Wiz have been one of the league’s most consistent teams, winning eight of their past 10 games. Their offense has been productive, scoring at least four runs in seven of those contests. The pitching staff has a 3.85 ERA over that stretch.

Kiwoom has lost nine of its past 10 games, with the lone win coming April 29 in an 11-inning 6-5 victory at Lotte. The Heroes’ lineup has averaged 2.3 runs per game during that span. The pitching staff has a 6.60 ERA over the past 10 games.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. local time. The three-game series continues Saturday and Sunday. After the series, KT returns home to face the Shinsegae Landers, while Kiwoom hosts the Hanwha Eagles.

The Wiz will send a starting pitcher to be announced. The Heroes’ starter has not been named.
