Lotte at KT
SUWON, South Korea (Interstat) — The KT Wiz host the Lotte Giants on Tuesday evening at Suwon Baseball Stadium, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. local time under cloudy skies and a temperature of 67 degrees.
KT (21-10-1) leads the KBO standings, while Lotte (12-17-1) sits near the bottom of the league. The Wiz have won four of their last five games, including a 6-4 victory Sunday at Kia Tigers. Left fielder Sam Hilliard went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs in that win, continuing a strong stretch. Over his last 10 games, Hilliard is hitting .300 with three homers and 11 RBIs.
Lotte enters on a three-game winning streak after taking a series at Shinsegae Landers. The Giants won 5-2 on Sunday behind right-hander Kim Jin-uk, who allowed one earned run over six innings, striking out four. Kim has been Lotte’s most consistent starter, posting a 2.53 ERA over his last five outings. On April 8, he threw eight innings of three-hit ball, striking out six, in a 6-1 win over KT — one of only two meetings this season between the clubs. KT won the other matchup 7-3 on April 7.
Lotte’s offense has been inconsistent, but left fielder Víctor Reyes provided a spark Sunday with a home run and three RBIs. The Giants’ bullpen, led by Choi Jun-yong — who threw a scoreless inning Sunday with two strikeouts — has shown improvement.
KT counters with a deep lineup that averages 5.6 runs per game, second in the league. The Wiz bullpen features Park Yeong-hyun, who struck out two in a scoreless inning Sunday.
Despite KT’s superior record, Lotte enters as a -1.5 run favorite according to betting lines. The Interstat game simulator projects a 5-4 KT win and gives the Wiz a 65.1 percent probability of victory. The over/under is set at 8.0 runs.
The game is the first of a three-game series. The teams meet again Wednesday and Thursday at Suwon. After that, Lotte returns home to face the Kia Tigers, while KT travels to face the Kiwoom Heroes.
Kim Jin-uk is expected to start for Lotte on Tuesday, though official lineups have not been announced. He has faced KT twice this season, allowing three runs over 13 innings with 12 strikeouts. Hilliard has been hot at the plate, with multi-hit games in three of his last four contests.
